Communicate From Anywhere With Smartphones

Communicate From Anywhere With Smartphones

Are you preparing to trade in your PDA and cellphone for a Smartphone? Here are the basics...

A Smartphone is basically a cellphone and PDA combined, allowing regular phone communication along with email and text messaging. Internet, fax, and data transfers between your office computer and the Smartphone are also included. There are some pros and cons to consider when preparing to switch over to the Smartphone solution:

Smartphone Internet Makes it Easier

Carrying just a Smartphone, there's one less thing to lose. You have Internet access to check email, search for directions, or quickly find info. Scaled-down versions of popular computer applications are available. You use a keyboard instead of a phone pad, making it easier to type longer messages with ease.

Some Things to Consider About the Smartphone

The initial investment is about three times as much as a regular mobile phone including the additional fees for the network service access which supports Smartphone features. If you're hooked on a small mobile phone, the Smartphone may seem large and awkward for calling. It may take a bit of time to get used to using the Smartphone. It can be a bit difficult to read text-heavy messages on the smaller screen. Navigating around the Smartphone and using all of the features requires a bit of a learning curve. Ready to invest in a Smartphone? Which one will you buy and what factors affect your decision?

Selecting the Right Service Contract is Critical

Before purchasing hardware, examine the plans that various service providers are offering very carefully. If you plan to purchase the hardware and plan together, you may get a good discount. Evaluate your plan coverage and usage fees as charges can be costly. It's important to know exactly what the terms are before the first the bill arrives.

Then Choose Your Smartphone Model

After selecting a plan which suits you, your choice of a Smartphone model will be narrowed. Which features are unnecessary for you? The MP3 player and camera may be nice to have, but the big files could clog up memory and make browsing the Internet very slow.

Is the Smartphone Really for You?

Allow some time to play around with the device, to make sure your Smartphone is easy to use. If it isn't, you may want to add a Bluetooth device to the set-up. Consider the weight of the Smartphone. It's nice to have lots of memory, but is the device so unpleasant to carry that you wouldn't use it? Look at how things are organized on the Smartphone. Does it make sense o you? Can you to find what you want? You may consider purchasing additional software for your Smartphone to customize it to your personal style.

Smartphone Synchronicity

Now that you have a Smartphone, there is free software available; but the standard for Smartphone synching appears to be Microsoft Windows Mobile for Smartphones 5.0. For a review of the Smartphones packaged with Microsoft Windows Mobile, visit Microsoft online.

Help answer the question

Is it possible to get a Verizon smartphone without a data plan?
I want to buy a smartphone off of ebay and activate it on Verizon wireless' website. I currently have the basic $39.99 plan. Will Verizon detect that my new phone is a smartphone and automatically upgrade me to a data plan? I don't need the data features, I just really like the smartphone.

  1. They usually come really well packaged up. They don't just put the phone in a box and let it roll around in there until you get it. It'll come in it's own box which is put in another box for shipping. The phone won't be able to move around in there. No worries, you're phone will work just fine and it'll last!

  2. wifi is a phone feature, it should work without any data plan. Data plans are more for email, web surfing etc. Use a wifi hotspot or unsecure network and surf away.

  3. ya, so does everyone else. unfortunately Verizon likes to screw people and say you don't need it, then poof, its on the bill. then when you call them and ask, they say it is REQUIRED for the phone, even though it is not, they just want more money.

  4. the phone is horrible

  5. no shit the x1 is ten times better and the x2 is the gretaest phone of all time but it looks ugly

  6. i got the eternity which is WAY better than the Vu, neon, and about even with the Xenon

  7. way to reply to a 2 week old comment you fucking retard. go suck a dick queer

  8. alltel customer's are staying on alltel plans until they decide to upgrade their plans, at which point they will have to change to a verizon nationwide plan. all smartphones do require a data plan, which start at $29.99.

  9. long paragraphs i think the voyager is probably your best bet because they keyboard is huge.

  10. I would wait until June/July when Verizon comes out with Niagara which really is the CDMA version of Bold

  11. I'm thinking it's your service providor? if it's verizon then call them , are you sure you have a "text feature" on your cell phone plan? you should have unlimited texting as it's cheap. So start with your carrier. .

  12. You would use the stylus like a phone charm wouldn’t you?? Lisa from Cnet sold me on it but I don’t know what sort of plan to put with it

  13. I don't think your going to have many options with the restrictions that you have placed. Most of the devices that I have looked at you will be using if you want a desktop based option.

I would give the Palm Treo's a second look. If you stick to a PalmOS based Treo you won't have any learning curve to learn to use it, and they use Palm Desktop. I don't know who your cellular provider is, but the Centro (Sprint) looks very nice, and the Treo 680 is also a very nice smartphone, although some people add an extended battery.

I have a Treo 650, and would purchase another one. The only gripe I have about the palm phone don't get high speed internet access, but this is a limitation of the OS, not the device itself.

  14. seems cool….think i should get it?

  15. nice review
    w w w. LG-Incite. com

  17. Whoever is watching this video, dont buy the phone, it sucks it is soooooo slow and freezes up all the time. Huge waste seriously.
