Help answer the question

How does blackberry internet differ from that of a regular cell phone?
I have Verizon and am confused on how blackberry's work versus regular cell phones. If you turn off internet access on a blackberry, you cannot make phone calls or text messages. Why is this? Does their internet function on a different frequency? Can anyone explain how a blackberry works?

  1. Firstly, the answer has nothing to do with the question that was asked. Secondly, you can have the data plan off the phone on a CDMA network as long as the provisioning features are on the account. You won't see EX, you would only see 1x instead of the usual 1XEV on a CDMA networks like Verizon. I should know coz I am a Tech Solutions Expert.

But more importantly, to answer the real question. Whats the difference between the internet on a cell and a BB device. HUGE Difference. Cell phone provider's give limited access to browser capabilities since most of the cell phone data plans are really cheap and are unlimited.

On a cell phone you can mainly browse to the links that the cell phone provider puts on their WAP Portal. Yes they would include the most basic functions such as checking your mail (hotmail, yahoo, gmail) and of course Facebook.

But 90% of the times when you try to browse to a normal site it wouldn't work. if it does awesome! If it doesn't then the provider doesn't support it.

On the other hand Blackberry's internet is a real internet on your phone. It is only limited by the website's inability to work properly on a data devices. However, 90% of the wesbites would work flawlessly.

I hope that kinda helped you out.

    Cheers

  2. Pin to Pin messages count like instant messages and texts, they are $.15cents per incoming/out messages. Yes you need a data plan to connect …then the messaging plan..yes they are definilty counted as sms.

ps. i work for customer care

  3. i like the iphone it is so cool

  4. AGREED (guerenquin )HAHA

  5. woo! watching phones load webpages….. it’s hard to find a more boring video.

  6. blackrain unlock baseband 3.1.2 RELEASED at my channel for windows and mac!!! it unlocks all 3gs,3g,2g, all ipod generations! just copy and paste url at my channel!!

  7. Internet is mandatory for blackberry's on Verizon's network for $30/month. If you have internet, you will be able to use e-mail, bbm, IM, and obviously internet. If you're looking for a skinnier phone go for the pearl. But I have the curve and I love it and its so easy to type on! The pearl is too once you get used to it though. And if you think the curves keys are too small, trust me they're fine. I'd say the best way to decide which one you want is go to the Verizon store (with working models) and mess around with both the curve and the pearl for a while and then decide which one you like more. Hope this helped! :)

  8. I have the blackberry storm…and it is a good phone…but the problem I have is that it freezes every 5 minutes…it gets on my last nerve…I don’t know if that’s just me but it is terribly annoying.

  9. Well, let me just say that the Blackberry storm is one of the greatest phones i've ever used in my life. Really when you push down on the screen the fact that it clicks and pushes in is great for the accuracy of what your are pressing. It is very fast and has great features. Truly a great phone.
Yes, it is compatible with Macs and Itunes if they are recent products for the past four years of generations. So if your mac and your Itunes are new and have been updated in the past four years then your set. GET THE PHONE!

  10. The Blackberry, like every cell type of device polls. But it does not mean what you describe. The polling that takes place is a "keep-alive" type of data packet. The purpose is to let the network know where the phone is located physically on the network at any given time. As a user moves from place to place the cell towers keep a record of those movements so that when you want to make a call or send data of any type you will already be connected and ready go. This is how you get an "always on" connection.

The polling intervals vary by providers but they are generally constant IE every so many seconds or nanoseconds.

If the network receives a piece of data destine for your device, the network sends the data immediately after it arrives. The network does not wait for any length of time beyond the time it takes to forward the message. There can be delays caused by no or poor signal in which case the information is stored until the connection is restored and is then downloaded.

  11. If you're on a work BES system (work issued BlackBerry most likely with a BlackBerry server) then the BlackBerry follows the Exchange servers rules (aka if outlook redirects your email to a folder, then so does BlackBerry). However, there is an email option that you tell your BlackBerry not to show messages in other folders other than Inbox. If you are looking at your messages inbox, click the menu button, go to Options, one of them should say "hide filed messages", say yes. You can tell when something has been filed because it has multiple envelopes as an icon instead of one single envelope.

Now, if you bought your BlackBerry on your own and don't have a BES system, then a "BIS" email system (personal that comes with a BlackBerry if an individual purchases it from the carrier) it doesn't support folders or filing of any sort.

    Hope that helps.

  12. dude your videos are very good and you are an awesome speaker but in this video you should have been not as much in favor with the storm as you are. I am you make bad comments about the iPhone when it’s sometimes slow and stuff. The iPhone is clearly a better device, The storm doesnot even have wifi

  13. There are two ways you can put music on the pearl. Either way you choose you will need to get a micro SD card, up to 4 gig, to hold the music. First way is through Desktop Manager that came with the phone. You will be adding media, not applications, so be sure you have selected media. It is done with a program called Roxio. The second way is to use WMP (Windows Media Player) and just sync the music to your phone. Actually I guess there are THREE ways. When you connect you Pearl to he computer you should be able to see it listed under MY COMPUTER when you open that folder. From there you can open the blackberry drive, find the media card, open the music file (or create on if the isn't one there already), and just drag and drop the files in there from your music folder.

Make sure you have the latest O.S. for your phone and the latest version of Desktop Manager. The O.S. differs for each service provider, and the should be able to tell you if you have the correct one.

Also I suggest you join http://forums.pinstack.com/

    Hope this helps!

  14. 2GB is 2048MB take away the formatting data that is on the card, its about 1800MB divide that by 6MB that is 300 videos without any pictures, songs, or ringtones on it.
